From first boot to your first cited answer

A practical getting-started path for connecting an AI Box, setting an administrator password, uploading a test document, and checking the answer against its source.

Written for: Office administrators, IT coordinators, first-time users

Start with a small, non-sensitive document you know well. The aim is to confirm the network, indexing, and citation workflow before introducing a larger library or confidential records.

Connect and sign in

  1. Connect the appliance to power and your local network using the setup instructions supplied for your unit.
  2. From a device on that same network, open the box's local address. Provisioned units use the hostname assigned during preparation; the staff guide shows the address format.
  3. Complete the first-run screen and set a strong administrator password. Do not reuse a temporary password for daily work.
  4. If the unit is still completing first boot, allow it to finish setup before troubleshooting model or indexing behavior. The initial preparation requires a network connection to install software and models.

Upload a test file and verify the result

  1. Choose a supported PDF, office document, text file, or supported scan. Begin with a clear, text-based file rather than a poor-quality scan.
  2. Wait for indexing to finish. The current upload flow processes a file before completing the upload request, so large or OCR-heavy files can take longer.
  3. Ask a narrow question whose answer you can locate yourself, then open the cited page and compare the answer with the source.
  4. Ask one question the document does not answer. Treat a confident answer without evidence as a reason to investigate, not as a reliable result.
Use a safe test set

The website demo and support chat are separate from a locally configured appliance. Do not upload sensitive customer, patient, legal, or employee documents to a public demo or website chat unless your organization has approved that data flow.

If something does not work

  • Check that your browser and appliance are on the same network and that the unit has finished first boot.
  • For a failed model response, ask your administrator to confirm which inference provider and model are configured.
  • For a scan, check that the text is readable at normal zoom; OCR quality depends on the source image.
  • Keep the original file in your organization's approved storage. The indexed database is not a substitute for your document archive.
A note on accuracy

AI Box answers from the documents you upload and shows the source document and page. Answers should still be checked against the cited page before they are relied on for legal, medical, or financial decisions.
